Put it down.
That big bag of heaviness you are carrying around, just place it on the ground. Just for today.
Maybe it’s filled with the “what if’s” of your children’s education. “What if they fall behind.” “What if I don’t do a good enough job with them at home.” “What if something is wrong and I can’t see it.”
Put that down. Your kids are fine.
Maybe your bag is filled with frustration and anger at other humans. Humans in the world or humans in your home.
Put that down. Everyone is doing the best they can with what they have.
Maybe your bag is filled with shame or judgment for yourself. Because you just aren’t “enough.”
Put..that..down.. You are more than enough.
It is hard right now. This pandemic has closed us in and asked us to look. Look at ourselves, our families, our communities.
If you don’t like what you see it’s simply because you aren’t seeing clearly. It’s because the weight of that bag you are carrying has grown heavy and you are tired and you just need to Put… It… Down… and rest.
“But how do I do that?” you might ask. I get it. I’ve asked myself the same question when I’ve been told to release my bag of “what ifs”, shame and anger.
Start with your breath. Breathe in. Breathe out.
(No, don’t just read the words. Do it with me!)
Deep into your belly breaths. Fill your belly like a balloon when you breathe in.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Three times.
Now close your eyes and send your breath straight to your heart center. Ask your heart “What does my soul want and need right now?”
That is your starting point. Meeting that need or want is how you learn to put that bag down and leave it there.
This heaviness isn’t you. You are light and beauty and love. Listen to your soul. She knows what to do.
