There is a strange thing that happens when you get to a point in your life where you realize something needs to change.
You think you’re supposed to know what the change is.
You should know what you want next, where you’re going, what the plan is and preferably have a vision board somewhere that proves you’ve thought the whole thing through. 😂
But that isn’t how knowing always works.
Sometimes there is a gap between knowing what is true now and knowing what comes next.
A few weeks ago, I got so frustrated with Audible that I knew with absolute certainty I was done giving them my money. The only problem was that I like audiobooks and had absolutely no idea what I was going to use instead.
For once, I didn’t make myself solve that problem before I honored what I already knew.
About a week later, I walked into my favorite independent bookstore and noticed a sign for Libro.fm, essentially the independent bookstore version of Audible. It had probably been sitting there in front of me forever, but I’d never seen it.
There was the next piece.
This is obviously a very small example, but I’ve watched the same thing happen with much bigger decisions in my life. And I think we create a tremendous amount of unnecessary pressure when we refuse to honor one piece of knowing until the next piece has arrived.
Especially in midlife, when so many of us are asking questions about what we actually want now.
That’s what I’m talking about in this week’s video:
Why You Don’t Know What You Want Anymore
If you’ve been able to answer everyone else’s questions but feel a little stumped by your own, I made this one for you.
And there’s one question I want you to take with you this weekend:
What do I know right now?
Not what have I figured out. Not what can I guarantee will happen next.
Just what do I know?
Start there.
Love,
Patty
