As communities in all parts of the world re-open there have been lots of comments about the fact that we “didn’t do more” during our time of isolation.
There’s been so much concern for what “could have been” that many of us are now wondering if we did it right. Short answer yes. Patty shares that there’s no right way to do anything.
There’s no right way to parent, though we often buy into what a “good” mom would do or how the perfect mom would behave.
It’s okay to have a vision of what it means to be a productive, healthy human. What’s not helpful is using that as a measuring stick for self-judgement.
Patty relays how her own children have been great guides. She encouraged them to decide how they wanted to show up in this unique time. While they chose different ways to fill their days (outside their schoolwork) they are both happy. They learned to fill their days, took on new responsibilities and didn’t look to Patty or her husband for the answers.
