Today’s episode comes from feedback and questions from listeners and people in the Space for Magic Facebook group. This concept is something that Patty has used herself. She’s sharing the “Magic Formula”, how it’s worked for her and how it can work for you as well.
Here’s what you need to know: you/we are not doing this alone.
Consistency is important in all kinds of things. Work, health and wellness, learning a new skill, and even things we like to do don’t just happen. It takes commitment.
Even the most well intentioned of us have jumped into a new workout routine or tried to implement a new habit only to fall off track when life gets busy. In this episode, Patty explains why that happens and how to avoid that in the future.
Create space to allow the Divine to help you.
Hear how to know what is your 100% and what is left for the Divine. This is so helpful! Results come with small, consistent effort on a regular basis.
It’s the difference between working out for 6 hours one day or week and working out for 30 minutes 6 days a week. We know that daily effort (in this example) trumps the intense but infrequent effort.
Patty also shares an unexpected benefit that implementing her morning walks has brought to her. Something she didn’t even know she needed. The Divine delivered in a way that she couldn’t not have planned or predicted.
Do your 100%, surrender and see the magic happen in your life.

0:00:04.3 S1: Welcome to the space for magic podcast, where people who are led by their hearts come to learn the secrets to receiving all the gifts the Universe has for us. I’m your host, Patty Lennon. I’m an ex type A corporate banker turned intuitive coach using a blend of common sense brain science and just a dash of magic, I’m here to help you create abundance in every area of your life and business. Welcome.
0:00:36.6 S2: Hey, they’re welcome to this episode of the space from Magic podcast. I’m your host, Patty Lennon. And today, I wanna talk a little bit about something I’ve been hearing from a number of people, which is, I know what I should be doing, but it’s so hard to stay consistent. I started on the right path. I know that if I do X, Y and Z, it will really benefit me. I’ll get me kind of the transformation or the change I’m looking for, and then yet I find myself a week, two weeks into whatever change I’m making, sadly falling back into old habits or bad habits. And I get it, I’ve experienced this in the past, and it shifted for me, and I think the reason it shifted is because of a little secret, a little piece of puzzle… I figured out along the way, and I wanna share that with you now. Before I jump into that though, I wanna talk about How I recently use this to make a big change in my life and because I think it’s important… So I had through the pandemic, put on a bit of weight. And it mostly came from just not being active, and probably the other side of it is eating more than I would normally eat because I was bored or…
0:02:00.4 S2: There was nothing else to do, you know the story. So I have now lost in the last six weeks, a total of 12 pounds, and I would attribute most of it to two specific things, first, I’ve been walking four miles every morning. No matter what else I do, I start my day with that. And I’ve been drinking higher quality coffee, so how did I get to this place where, first of all, how to make the choice to have this coffee and why is it having an impact, and also how am I showing up for the walking every single day when I couldn’t seem to do that during the pandemic, and it’s a very interesting process that helped me get to that place, so those are really how I’ve recently experienced what I’m about to share with you, and I can tell you it’s work time and time again. It has a lot to do with how I was able to produce an oracle card deck, a new book, a new community that I’m actually announcing today when this episode drops and some other things that I’m totally not remembering now. Anyway, I’ve gotten a lot done. So how’d that happen? Well, it comes down to this low secret, which is that you are not doing it alone, that the divine…
0:03:25.7 S2: The universe has our back. And so then how do we allow in that help from the Divine when we’re trying to make a change, especially when the change feels like something… That’s our responsibility. So for instance, the extra weight was on because I ate more and I moved less, so then moving more in, eating less would be my responsibility. Right, but that’s not the whole story. And to tell that story that way to myself isn’t very compassionate, and I’m going to ask you to start is showing yourself some compassion as you listen to me talk about this process. So what I have found is, if I know that I need to, let’s say walk four miles every day, right… If that’s a goal, well, telling myself to go from not walking every day to walking four miles every day is just… It feels big, and most likely, if I require that of myself to be successful, I would fail, and failure doesn’t feel good, failure is a necessary part of growth, but when we set ourselves up to fail, that’s not really a good strategy, and so the secret to becoming consistent with the habit is lowering the bar, it’s lowering the bar to the bare minimum of what it takes to start to embrace a change in behavior, and you’re not just lowering the bar to make it easy, you’re actually saying, You know what, Divine…
0:04:52.3 S2: This is what I know I can do consistently, and I’m gonna hand off the rest to you, either you’re going to give me other solutions, you’re gonna help me with the transformation, you’re going to do some of the work for me, or you’re gonna inspire me to kind of up the bar. When it makes sense. In the beginning, I didn’t actually expect myself to walk four miles, I made the bar so low that it was 2000 steps, start at 2000 steps, and if I do 2000 steps for a week, then I would increase it to 3000 and so on. As it turns out, within a couple of days, as long as I was out there doing the extra steps to get up to those four miles, it wasn’t challenging, and I really found it to be quite enjoyable to have that time outside by myself. Now, I lower the bar to 2000 steps. And what happened was, I happened to be listening to someone talk about how they started listening to audio books while they were walking, and this is a strategy I’ve heard before, but for some reason, it hit me in that moment that that would help.
0:06:06.7 S2: And so I looked for a book that I knew would be really compelling, and so that was part of what urged me on because I wanted to get… I want to listen more and more. So that was one inspiration, the divine sent me, another inspiration the divine sent me was to get me to leave my home a little bit earlier than I’d been leaving, and what I found was when I gave myself that extra time to walk, and it wasn’t that I felt forced to do this. All of a sudden I just felt like, You know what, I’ll feel a lot better. If I get that home earlier from my walk and giving myself that extra time, I found I really like just being outside and drinking in the energy around me, and I will tell you from my perspective, the only thing I used my will power on, which is really why consistency drops off is that we only have so much will, and if we require a lot of will to accomplish something, eventually our will power teeter out, so I knew I could do 2000 steps without a whole lot of will power, and there were days where when I got up, even if I had walked four miles for 10 days, I still said, You know what, technically we’re only at whatever it was, 3000 steps or 40000 steps.
0:07:22.1 S2: I didn’t keep upping the bar on myself, I really held myself to that original schedule, and so I always give myself freedom to do less, and their freedom is oftentimes what our mind is looking for, to be willing to engage the process, so that made a big difference. Well, in the mix of all this, I also came to figure out that it makes a big difference to my morning when I have a really good coffee. And that’s a whole story in and of itself, so I’m not gonna go into that. But I ended up buying, getting actually a much better coffee maker, and between starting my day off with a really good cup of coffee that just put some pleasure into my day before the day even started, and getting this walk outside where I was getting fresh air knowing that I had done this really good thing for myself that just naturally created a trickle effect on the other choices I made throughout the day, and here I am, 12 pounds lighter, and I can honestly say it felt easy… There hasn’t been any time where I felt like I couldn’t have what I wanted or that this was like an effort, really it has felt completely effortless, and when we keep the bar low for ourselves, we leave the Divine a lot of space to come in and help us, help us with consistency, help us know what else is going to support us on our journey, but so often we squeeze out that help, we push it away by thinking the effort has to be all on our shoulders, and so that’s the secret that I found to being consistent in actually producing a result that you may want and you’ve tried to accomplish before, but for some reason, I keep falling short of it, what I would tell you is lower the bar on what you’re doing on a daily basis or a weekly basis, and if you do that, you lower to such a point that it’s easy to accomplish, then you’re going to leave the universe, the Divine, a lot of speed to come help you on that bar when you lower to where it feels easy or doable that your 100%…
0:09:34.3 S2: I’ve talked about the 100% here before. I’ve said, If you feel like you have to push a boulder, like what you’re doing is pushing a boulder up the hill, you’re past your 100%, you really wanna keep it to the point where it feels easeful, the divine… And even just universal law, just practical, even if you didn’t think that the divine wanted to help you, let’s say you don’t even understand that that magic exists in the universe, what improving psychologically, time and time again is that behaviors that are engaged on a consistent basis, really create full transformation. That’s really what does it… Dropping in and out of a project, doing something hard for four hours one day and then dropping out of it and then going back into it like we can have later, and doing it for eight hours, let’s say that does not produce results, even if the amount of time, actually, if you added that up, so those four hours and then eight hours equals 12 hours, that’s a lot of time, as opposed to if you spend 15 minutes or 20 minutes engaging a process on a daily basis, which over the course of two weeks would only add up to a handful of hours, you’d actually get better results from doing it that way consistently, and I won’t go into the brain science behind that or in the universal laws.
0:10:53.5 S2: You’re just gonna have to trust me on this. The most important thing I want to understand is that it is possible to be consistent, but if you make consistency hard on yourself, it’s going to be really challenging to find your way into a consistent routine. Now, interestingly enough, something emerged on my walks that I didn’t even know I needed, that had nothing to do with moving more and getting healthier and feeling better in my body, it was a need that I really hadn’t even put to the forefront of my mind, and that was a sense of community. So as I start to show up at this pathway in our town, walking every day at the same time, what I started to see was that the same people were there at the same time, and when I had started out walking, I actually really just wanted to be alone, even if I saw one person on the path, I’d be like, Oh, I hope they don’t talk to me, but over time, the more I found myself feeling at home in that pathway, the more seeing the same faces over and over again, started to really bring me a sense of comfort.
0:12:07.6 S2: Now, if those people were rushing or were angry or had some really negative energy about them, I don’t think I would have felt that way, but there’s a certain type of person that gets up early to go walking on a pathway and deep down inside… There’s something that connects all of us to that time of mourning, to that energy of being out there, and one person in particular has really found his way into a special place in my heart, so there was an older gentleman who walks the path everyday, tearing up just thinking about him. And he stops. Every single day he stops, he says, How are you doing? Or you’ll say, Hey, be careful. They’ve got the landscapers out, he’ll just always see some shortness of now, years ago being stopped on a walk or maybe it was my alone time by someone who just wants to chat you up might have been irritating to me, and I’ll be honest about that. You know what, when I was moving at the speed of light, sometimes I didn’t always appreciate this, but I found that since my father passed away a couple of years ago, I really have such a strong affection when an older gentleman will stop me to talk because my dad used to do that to everyone.
0:13:34.2 S2: And I remember at his wake, that was something that so many people reflected on, that when they came into a room that he was in, he would stop what he was doing and pay attention to them, and he was truly curious about people who was really interested when he said, How are you doing? What’s new for you? He was curious, he wanted to know, and I feel that from my friend on the path, I don’t know his name, but I do know that if he wasn’t there one day, I would notice, and one of these days, I’m gonna sum it up, the courage to tell them how much him asking about my day means to me, and I always make a point, as much as I say hi to everyone, I do walk with my ear bud in and I always make a point to take them out when I see him, ’cause I want him to feel that what he does matters to me, because it does it, and without knowing I had this need in my heart, the define delivered this angel to me, This person that no matter what else happens, makes me feel that we truly are all connected, right.
0:14:47.1 S2: No matter what happens in my day, I have this, I know that the smiling face is going to create my rain or shine, ’cause I’ve been out there in rain or shine, and so as a… And what’s so amazing about him is he has one leg, he walks on a prosthetic leg with a walker, and his smile and his questioning is so genuine, the light that comes from within him is real, and I don’t know what he’s been through to have lost a leg, and to still feel so joyous in the world, but I wanna be close to it, it matters who we found ourselves with, and in a time where we’re spending more of our connection time on social media in a place that isn’t always very healthy. The divine showed me what I really need, but I really didn’t even know how to ask for it. I didn’t know how to ask for it because I didn’t even realize the need was there. And the divine did all this simply because I set the original goal to get 2000 steps in and then said, That’s my 100%, please take over from there. And I find that’s really the formula to bring magic in is to do your 100% and then truly surrender it, and what I have found time and time again is when we do that, the miracles are just amazing.
0:16:17.2 S2: And by the way, I will say I have not yet summoned up the courage to stop this man, my friend, and tell him how much he means to me, how much light he has brought to my life, but I will do it, and I will do it soon. In case you’re wondering, ’cause I think it is important to tell other people the gift they give us, especially when they might not know… So what I have found is, for many people that start to embrace this 100% concept is that it can be hard at first to trust that the divine is gonna take over, and I find that there’s different pieces of the puzzle that will build that trust in the divine showing up in different pieces of the puzzle that creates space for magic, and I’m gonna be giving… The day that this podcast drops, this episode drops, I’m gonna be giving a training where I’m gonna talk about those pieces of the puzzle, I’m gonna talk about the daily practices that you can do in three to four minutes by the way, really short amount of time, what you can do be doing on a daily basis to allow in more of that magic, allowing the help from the divine so that you can trust that it’s there, and if you’ve been thinking, Oh, I’ve got a journal, I really need to start journaling, Oh, I really need to start meditating, anything that has to do with that piece of the puzzle.
0:17:43.8 S2: I think you’re really gonna wanna be a part of this training because I’m gonna talk to you about what I do on a daily basis, and it’s not… It doesn’t take up a whole lot of time, like I said, three to four minutes, so have you even think you need all this time, you need to carve out all this time, I assure you, there is a process you can use that takes out much less time and if it takes a much less time and it’s much easier than what you’ve been thinking you should be doing, you’re going to be able to do it consistently, so if you’ve wanted a quick process that you can do on a consistent basis, that will feel easy that lets in the magic of the universe that clears your blocks that get you stuck, that kind of opened you up and makes you for light and free. Then definitely join us. I’m calling today’s workshop, the magic formula. We’ll go more into detail there, and you can register at pattylennon.com/training. And if you believe that there’s something in that training that’s gonna help you make it, then I strongly recommend you join us so you can get those tools, but for now, what is it, where is the bar set that’s keeping you from being consistent in making that change happen and can you lower the bar a little and hand the rest off to the universe, this is what creates massive shifts, this is what has created successes in my life, it’s what I’ve seen, create success in my client’s lives, and it’s the success I want for you.
