It’s a new year!
…and I’m already exhausted from the “make your resolutions” energy.
I don’t know about you but that rah-rah-get-out-there-damn-the-torpedos-and just-do-it attitude doesn’t feel authentic to me. It feels a bit forced and just, well, ick.
Making change is no small thing (unless you have excellent math skills. 😉 But seriously, making change isn’t as easy as the resolution setters of the world would have you believe.
I know I’m going against conventional wisdom that says, “Put down that cookie, stop spending so much money and brush 3 times a day…and don’t forget to floss before bed dammit!” but really, I don’t care.
I’ve learned that the most effective, successful change starts within you. It has nothing to do with what you “should” do or what someone else may want for you.
If you really want to create true change, figure out what you want. What you really, really want.
It starts with taking stock.
To get where you’re going, it helps to know where you’ve been. That whole rah-rah-just-do-it vibe, doesn’t leave a whole lot of room for reflection.
It doesn’t matter who you are or what your life looks like right now, I guarantee something is working. And probably more than one thing.
Take stock.
This means get to know yourself.
Side note: If you think you don’t really like yourself all that much, you simply don’t know yourself well enough. And, by the way, it isn’t you that you don’t like, it’s parts of your present life that don’t serve you – the real you – that you don’t like. I’m just sayin’.
You were born special with your own inherent preferences, strengths and values. Seriously, you’ve got some mad, wicked skills. But when’s the last time you checked to see which of those preferences, values and skills are aligned with the life you’re living right now?
Take stock.
Nobody else can know you the way that you can. If you want to be happier and live happier, start with you. Once you do, it’s far easier to get clear about what you want and then take some of those rah-rah-just-do it steps to a far happier you.
Thanks for being here and reading my message. I want you to stay connected with me so that I can share all future communications with you.
