My children will start to wake soon. They normally sleep in if they can but they are still young enough to be carried by the excitement of Christmas approaching.
I love this time of year.
It’s a time of magic and miracles.
In our church the pastor spends a significant amount of time reminding the children that Christmas isn’t about Santa and presents, it’s about Jesus’ birth.
I’m not so sure Jesus would agree. My experience of Jesus is that he is a pretty humble dude. I think if Jesus were here right now he’d say Christmas is about knowing that we are not alone, that the Divine is here to support us.
Christmas is about miracles and magic.
Christmas is about light and love.
Christmas is about faith and hope.
Which is what Hanukkah is about also.
In fact, I looked up the holidays and festivals each religion celebrates at this time of year and they all tie back to these core concepts – light, love, faith and hope.
Isn’t that amazing? That no matter how the Divine found its way into a community, no matter how long ago that was, the message at this time of year is the same. In darkness, there is light. In the Divine, all things are possible.
So, no matter what your faith, my wish for you is that you feel the truth of the Divine holding you and loving you. I hope that you see miracles and magic everywhere.
I hope that the excitement that comes with the knowledge that you are not alone and anything is possible in your life, fills you so completely that you leap out of bed early because you can’t wait to see what is waiting for you under the tree of life.
And if you can’t imagine feeling that excitement right now, I will hold you in special place in my heart tonight when I sit in church and pray. Sometimes life serves us up some pretty intense darkness and having faith in that light feels really, really hard. If that is you, you will be the focus of my love and prayers tonight. Darkness can feel permanent, but its not. Darkness never stays. Light always wins. I can hold that faith for you, my love, until you can feel it for yourself.
Thanks for being here and reading my message. I want you to stay connected with me so that I can share all future communications with you.
