Last night at my children’s Christmas Pageant the Principal opened the evening by reminding the audience that Christmas was possible because one very brave young woman chose to say “Yes.”
She was talking about Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. For so many reasons my eyes welled with tears. You don’t need to believe Jesus was the Son of God or that Mary was a virgin to appreciate the fact that Mary showed some serious courage that night.
Here she was unmarried at a time when a woman could be stoned to death for having sex before marriage. And she said “bring it on.”
Right now you may need a little of that courage. Perhaps you are being called to pursue your life purpose and it feels scary. Or doing what you need to do to move your life forward and still honor who you choose to be as a mom, wife or daughter feels daunting.
I want you to know you can call on Mary right now. You don’t need to belong to a church or hold certain religious beliefs to call on Mary. She is ready, willing and able to help.
There is nothing wrong in the asking. But without asking, Mary’s hands are tied. You came to this earth with free will and so Mary (and any other celestial helper you may need) must wait for you to invite the help.
So what are you waiting for? What would happen if you invited help in?
While you are at it, think about what would happen if you invited in help from the people around you. Going it alone is not a prerequisite to success. In fact, success usually comes to those who can gracefully receive as well as give.
In this season of giving, please remember to receive.
